Completion Ceremony Held for “Project for the Rehabilitation of Irrigation Facilities in the Eastern Terai Region”
The construction work for the Project for the Rehabilitation of Irrigation Facilities in the Eastern Terai Region, Nepal, a Grant Aid project financed through Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA), for which our company served as the consultant, has been successfully completed. A completion ceremony was subsequently held at the project site in Nepal.

President Mr. MORI receives a token of appreciation from Ms. Sarita Dawadi, Secretary, the Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.

  1. Completion Ceremony and Celebrations by Stakeholders from Nepal and Japan   On January 28, 2026, a completion ceremony was held at the project site in Saptari District, Madhesh Province, Nepal. Attendees included Ms. Sarita Dawadi, Secretary of Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) in Nepal, Mr. Shinto, Deputy chief of Mission, the Embassy of Japan in Nepal, representatives of JICA, and many other distinguished guests committed to strengthening the relationship between Nepal and Japan.   Representing our company, President Mr. MORI Taku attended the ceremony together with project team members who had been stationed in Nepal for two years and played a key role in supporting the smooth implementation of the grant aid project, including construction supervision activities on the ground.

During the ceremony, Ms. Dawadi and other representatives expressed their sincere appreciation for the successful completion of the project. Recognition was given to our staff members, who carried out their professional responsibilities under challenging conditions, as well as to the contractors whose dedication and commitment contributed significantly to the project’s success.

2. Revitalizing a Historic Infrastructure Asset and Our Role   The project focused on the Chandra Nahar Irrigation System, one of Nepal’s oldest irrigation facilities, originally constructed in 1927. This historic infrastructure has supported regional agricultural production for nearly a century and remains a valuable asset to local communities. Our company has been involved in the project since the preparatory survey stage in 2020, working to preserve and pass on this important infrastructure to future generations.   During implementation, the project faced numerous challenges, including the impacts of the global pandemic by COVID-19 and severe flooding in 2024 that caused river embankment failures. Nevertheless, as the consultant to the executing agency, we worked diligently to provide technical expertise and effective coordination, while supporting the grant aid project through construction supervision and project management services. Through these efforts, the project was successfully completed.

3. Contributing to Local Communities and Looking Ahead: Completion Marks a New Beginning

The rehabilitated facilities, including Canal Under Pass (CUP), Cross Drainage Works (CDW), and Canal Crossing Bridges (CCB), have restored the irrigation system’s capacity to convey irrigation water efficiently as originally designed. As a result, the cultivated area is expected to expand during both the wet and dry seasons, directly contributing to regional food security and improving the livelihoods of local farming communities. While the construction work has now been completed, this milestone represents not an end, but the beginning of a new chapter. Our commitment extends beyond infrastructure development. We will continue to support the proper operation and maintenance of the rehabilitated facilities and work closely with stakeholders to ensure that farmers can sustainably benefit from the improved irrigation system for years to come.
