President’s visit to Nepal

Our president, Mr. T. Mori, made a business trip to Nepal.

In Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, he met Mr. Sigdel, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Mr. Koirala, Joint Secretary and Mr. Baral, Deputy Director General. Mr. Mori explained them about the situation of the Grant Aid Project i.e. “The Project for the Rehabilitation of Irrigation System in Eastern Terai Area ” and exchanged opinions on the future vision of irrigation development in Nepal.

He also visited the Chandra Nahar Irrigation scheme in Saptari District, Madhesi Province, located approximately 200 km east of Kathmandu (the implementation area of the aforementioned grant aid project) and he met there the representative of the irrigation management office and the construction contractor. In the light of such interactions and exchange of opinions, Mr. Mori instructed our supervisors to not only ensure that the construction would be carried out as planned, but also to be careful about safety management and to take into consideration the factors concerning to the surrounding farmers and residents.

The first part of the grant aid project will contribute to rural development in the Chandra Nahar Irrigation scheme by rehabilitating irrigation facilities that have a rich history of more than 90 years.
